(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS students and staff welcome new math teacher Rennie Finck.

Finck went to college at Highpoint University in North Carolina. After only a year, she moved back down to Florida to continue her studies at University of South Florida.

After earning her degree in Finance and Marketing and spending many years working for various banks, Finck was ready for a change.

“I was a financial advisor for almost 12 years and I just got sick of it,” said Finck, “I wanted to do something that would make an impact.”

Since then, Finck has been working at various middle schools teaching algebra and geometry. After working with Principal Dustin Dahlquist at Buffalo Creek middle School, Finck decided to transfer to LRHS with him.

“I have taught for 13 years, but this is my first year teaching high school. I’m really enjoying it,” said Finck.

This year has been a big change for Finck, but she seems to be adapting to the new environment. She particularly enjoys the high school schedule.

“I really like getting home earlier and I’m always up early so it’s a good fit,” Finck explained.

One of the biggest changes she had to face this year was motivating her students.

“I am used to teaching advanced topics to younger students,” Finck said, “Now that I am teaching the same subject to older students, I really have to be a coach and motivate them to learn.”

Though through many changes, Finck is excited to be at LRHS and teach new students.

“Everyone has been very helpful and welcoming,” Finck said, “I am at a great school and I’m excited for what the year has to offer.”
