Freshmen(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- As the 2018-19 school year comes to an end LRHS freshmen reflect on what it was like to take an Advanced Placement (AP) class.

AP classes give students the ability to earn a college credit, which in return means the classes are more challenging and can be difficult for some students.

At LRHS, students have the option to take AP Human Geography. The class focuses on the interaction with humans and the environment and meets the history credit requirement for graduation.

“I am so grateful to have taken an AP class this year, it really pushed me to work harder,” shared Freshmen Lindsay Mitchell.

Freshmen Shalanee Campbell said, “The class was very difficult for me, it was a subject that I knew nothing about and there was a lot to learn.”

Human Geography consists of a lot of vocabulary and difficult concepts that students must memorize and apply to real life situations. Students are given a lot more work in and outside of school which can be a struggle for many students.

After class work students must take a test at the end of the year that determines whether  they receive the college credit. For AP Human Geography the test consists of 75 multiple choice questions and three Free Response Questions (FRQs).  Test scores will be released later this summer.

Freshmen Elizabeth Williams said, “The test scared me the most, I was really worried that I wouldn’t pass.”  Students were given rigorous study guides and spent many hours preparing for their first AP exam.

Overall most students were very grateful to have taken the course and plan on taking more AP classes in the future.

“I’m really thankful for the opportunity and hope to continue taking more AP’s in the three more years I have at LRHS,” said Campbell.
