Cassidy McLellan – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The class 7A district eight softball championship was on Thursday, May 4.
LRHS dropped the title to the Sarasota Sailors.
The Mustangs took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning after a two-run homerun. However, the Sailors quickly scored one in return.
In the fifth inning, the Sailors increased their lead to 5-2. The Mustangs put up some fight in the top of the seventh inning, making the score 5-3.
They unfortunately could not take the lead back.
The final score was 5-3.
Sophomore Olivia Shephard said, “Yesterday’s loss showed us how much we are going to have to fight if we want to make it to states again.

Despite the loss the Mustangs did qualify for the regional tournament with the hope of returning to the state championship tournament.
