Dakota Wernet – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS varsity baseball team has won its district championship.

The Mustangs (18-7) beat Venice High School 1-0 Thursday in the final.

They scored their first run in the first inning and were able to hold Venice throughout the entire game.

Senior Pitcher Cole Dement finished the game strong, along with a game- winning catch by first-baseman Hayden Antonelli.

Dement said, “Being able to finally get to experience this, especially as a senior with the boys that I battled with for four years, has been unforgettable.”

Senior third-baseman Holden Pollock said, “It’s an honor to win districts this year, we had a lot of talent on this team and all the hard work finally paid off.”

LRHS Athletic Director Kent Ringquist presented the team with the 7A District Champion trophy to show their achievement.

The Mustangs played their first district playoff game on Tuesday, May 2 against Gulf Coast High School, winning 2-1.
