(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS senior Kate Tuchman committed to the prestigious City College of New York/CUNY School of Medicine to pursue a seven-year Bachelor of Science degree and Medical Doctor degree (BS/MD) program.

The BS/MD program has over 1000 applicants, but only 300 applicants get called in for an interview. Out of those 300 only 90 are accepted into the program.

During spring break, Tuchman flew up to New York to be interviewed for the program. She was asked questions about her qualifications for the program.

“They asked me pretty basic questions about my school involvement, community involvement, and who I am as a person,” Tuchman said.

Tuchman was one of the five out-of-state applicants accepted into the program.

When she received her acceptance letter, she was happy.

“I saw the email, and I immediately knew that all my hard work had paid off. I couldn’t stop smiling,” Tuchman continued.

Tuchman hopes to become a surgeon and plans on going into cardiovascular surgery.
