(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS senior varsity softball player, Cassidy McLellan, was the national high school softball player of the year for the week of April 11.
Extra Innings Softball selected McLellan for week nine of the national player of the week series.
McLellan has been selected for this series three years in a row, May 25, 2021, April 26, 2022, and now April 11, 2023.
During the most recent week McLellan went 6-for-7 (.857 batting average) and added a walk as well as a home run for her Mustangs team in a pair of victories.
In the Mustangs’ home game against Riverview High School, McLellan ended the game with a walk off grand slam, ending the game in a four-inning run rule with a score of 16-0.
McLellan said, “My grand slam walk off was a great feeling. I was glad I got to have at least one last walk off in my high school career, and a four-run bomb is one of the best ways to end a game.”
