Dominick Kerman – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS boys and girls track teams excelled at the Manatee County championships held Thursday at Manatee High School.

The Mustangs boys finished first and the girls finished third.

Some notable results by Mustangs boys include sophomore Derek Robinson winning the 800 meters , and sophomore Jonathan Leatt winning the 1600 meters and 3200 meters.

Mustang girls head coach Rae Ann Darling Reed was very proud of the team. “The girls competed well as a team and were able to take home a third-place trophy.”

Reed said some notable finishes include the girls 4 x 800 relay of freshman Skyler Quigley, sophomore Kyleigh Halloran, sophomore Leilani Galdamez, and freshman Sienna Peddie taking home silver medals.

 Quigley was a double individual county champion, winning the gold in both the 1600 meters and the 3200 meters. Freshman Diana Larion also had a strong finish with a new personal best in the 1600 meters and then returned in the 3200 meters with a strong second place finish and another new personal best.

Senior Makena Murack took home a bronze medal for third place in the 100-meter-high hurdles. Halloran ran a new personal best in a very competitive 800 meters. Senior Madison Adams won gold in the javelin.

The tournament was scheduled to be played on Wednesday but was postponed due to inclement weather.
