(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS varsity softball team had three home games this week. The Mustangs are 8-4 so far this season.
This team’s first game was on March 21 against Sarasota at home. The girls won 4-3.
The game went into extra innings when the seventh inning ended with a 3-3 tie.
Junior Ella Dodge started pitching and Freshmen Olivia Carr closed.
In the bottom of the 12th inning, the top of the lineup got the job done.
Senior Amanda Lee had a leadoff single and made to second on a passed ball. Dodge moved Lee to third with a sacrifice bunt. Lee scored on another passed ball, ended the game, and gave the Mustangs the victory.
Lee said, “During my at bat, I was telling myself to get on base because I knew my team was going to get me in.”
The next game was at home against Naples. The Mustangs won 11-1 in six innings.
The bats started off strong, scoring three runs in the first inning and then three again in the third inning.
Junior Grace Shaw-Rockey came up to bat in the bottom of the sixth inning, bases loaded, with the chance to end the game. On a 1-1 count, she hits a line drive to the center-right field fence, scoring all three runners.
The game ended with the 10-run run-rule.
Shaw-Rockey said, “Both offensively and defensively, we played a great game. It was good to see our bats get hot and our pitchers do well.”

The third game of the week was against Parish Community High School at home. LRHS lost 1-0.
Although the offensive side fell short, the defense was spot on with great pitching and amazing plays made in the field.
Carr pitched a full seven innings with five strikeouts, five hits, and one walk.
The Mustangs’ next game is at 6 p.m. on March 28 against Calvary Christian at the Eddie C Moore complex in Clearwater.
