(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) -LRHS Athletic training applications have been released and are due on Thursday, Apr. 6.

Mustangs may pick up the application forms at the bulletin board by the dance room 731.

Athletic training is a medical practice that deals with the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

Trainers at LRHS work with a multitude of sports, some of which include football, soccer, and softball.

Student trainer and senior Lily Lynch said, “I enjoy being a part of the team. The community and friendships I’ve developed are the best.”

“It has been my dream to become a physical therapist and work with athletes,” Lynch continued.

Head athletic trainer Sydney Suppa recommends her program for all who are interested in the sports science field.

“The program is a great way to gain experience. Student athletic trainers observe the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries in real time,” Suppa said.

Throughout the year, the trainers learn first aid skills and taping procedures.

Student trainer senior Olivia Heim has been a trainer for three years.

“I applied for student training because I was interested in sports medicine and love football. Working alongside Sydney and the other trainers has really changed my perspective on athletics and helped me decide what I want to do as a career,” Heim said.

Applicants may turn in their form to the A.T. room 748 or email it to Suppa.
