Cassidy McLellan – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS varsity softball team had four games this week.
The first game was on Saturday, Feb. 25 against Tampa Catholic. The Mustangs won 6-0.
Freshmen Olivia Carr pitched six innings, allowing only two hits and had eight strikeouts.
Senior Amanda Lee helped the team tremendously going 2-4 with two RBIs.
Lee said, “I felt ready for the game, and I was excited to succeed. I feel like our team is extremely prepared.”
The next game followed on Tuesday, Feb. 28 against Inspiration Academy and LRHS won 9-0.
Junior Ella Dodge pitched four innings with five strikeouts and allowed two hits. Carr pitched three innings in relief with five strikeouts and allowing only two hits.
Dodge also had a successful night at the plate going 2-2 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Dodge said, “It felt great being able to get on base and hit some runs in at the plate and keep people off the bases on the mound because we are all giving it our all and it felt great to be able to help the team out.”
On Mar. 1, the team played Canterbury high school and won 12-2 in a six-inning run rule.
Junior Leah James went 3-3 with one RBI.
James said, “We were able to create rally’s and build off each other’s accomplishments.”

The third game of the week was on Mar. 2 against Charlotte High School and the Mustangs won 16-2.
Junior Grace Shaw-Rockey scored four of the 16 runs by going 2-3 with four RBIs.
Shaw-Rockey said, “It was a great win over a scrappy Charlotte team. It was great to get the bats hot.”
The team’s next game is scheduled against Windermere at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 4 at Windermere High School.
