Sophia Bayindiryan – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) -The LRHS varsity wrestling team finished second in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 3A District 7 Championship last Friday at Hillsborough Dr. Lennard High School.

The varsity boys wrestling team placed second in the district with 10 of the wrestlers advancing to regionals. The top four placers in each weight class will participate in regionals in Orlando.

Mustang head coach Pat Ancil said, “A great day of wrestling by your Mustangs at the FHSAA 3A District 7 championships! Your Mustangs tied a school record in qualifying ten wrestlers for the regional tournament next weekend!”

  • 285 junior Nate Smith – First place district champion
  • 106 junior Logan Borcsane – Second
  • 132 senior Logan Wright – Second
  • 182 senior Evin Leavy – Second
  • 160 senior Cody King – Third
  • 170 sophomore Trey Schwartz – Third
  • 120 sophomore Andres Anastasi – Fourth
  • 126 junior Tucker Rodriguez – Fourth
  • 145 senior Devlin Loynd – Fourth
  • 220 junior Will Moran – Fourth
  • 113 freshman Gabriel Salles – Fifth
  • 138 senior Connor Tomelden – Fifth
  • 195 junior Evan Bolick – Fifth

District champion Smith said, “I took districts one match at a time. Leading me to district championship and winning it, I’ll do the same for regionals one match at a time.”

The varsity Mustangs’ next meet is scheduled for the regional championships on Friday, Feb 24 and Saturday Feb. 25 in Orlando.
