Gianna Heinemann– Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Last Saturday LRHS boys and girls lacrosse teams played against multiple schools in a preseason tournament called, “Lax against Leukemia.”

The “Lax Against Leukemia” tournament benefits the Joey Powers Leukemia Project. The 2023 lineup included over 50 girls and boys high school teams from around Florida.

The “Lax Against Leukemia” project was founded by Joey Powers’ family in 2010 after he lost his fight to pediatric Leukemia.

All proceeds go directly towards providing financial assistance and resources for families of Leukemia victims.

LRHS junior Maddy Gattuso said “We played four games on Saturday, and we won two of them. Even though we could have done better I’m happy with the outcome of our tournament.
