Dakota Wernet – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Mustangs girls varsity soccer team ended the 2022-23 season with a tough loss Tuesday.

The team played against Palm Harbor University High in the regional final.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw in regular time.  After extra time Palm Harbor beat the Mustangs on penalty kicks 4-3.  The Mustangs ended the season 19-1-1.

Senior Mustang Mia Reddick said, “I am so proud of the girls. They played their absolute hardest and left everything out on the field. Best four years of my soccer career.”

One athlete who stood out during the game was LRHS sophomore goalie Emma Chapman.

She was awarded player of the game.

Mustang head coach and Early Childhood Education teacher Delaney Riggins said, “We’ve had one of the most successful seasons this program has seen in nearly a decade, and it’s something they should be very proud of.”

Riggins added the team is expecting to lose many senior players, but skilled and devoted underclass athletes will fill the spots.
