Sydney Oostendorp- Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Last Thursday, the LRHS boys weightlifting team had their first meet of 2023 against Palmetto High School.
This meet had both the Olympic category (Snatch and Clean and Jerk) and Traditional (Clean and Jerk and Bench).
Palmetto won 41-33 and although the Mustangs lost, many individuals placed.
Sophomore Wyatt Gadeken won second place in both the Olympic and Traditional category in his weight group.
Gadeken said, “For my first meet I thought it went great and I never doubted myself or the team.”
This meet was a first for many on the team.

Weightlifting coach Andrew Shackelford said, “I’m excited about the new season, were looking to build off of last year, we have a good group of kids coming back and a lot of newcomers.
“I think we have a really good chance to do well this year when we compete,” Shackelford continued.
