The LRHS girls celebrate their district title

Savannah Adams – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS varsity girls soccer team beat North Port High School (NPHS) for the District Championship Wednesday.

The team (17-0-1) won 2-0.

Junior Madie Adams and senior captain Gabi Madrid scored for the Mustangs.

Adams said, “I believe we all left everything out on the field. I am so happy to earn the title of District Champion!”

This win secures home field advantage for the Mustangs during their regional playoffs.

Coach Delaney Riggins said, “It was a great performance from the entire team starting from our goalkeeper all the way up to our attacking players. We started out strong and held them until the final whistle blew. It definitely was a team effort.”

Senior Ella Fetchko earned player of the match.

She said, “The team wanted the win and we put the effort into it, and we got it. I’m excited to see how the rest of the season and how regionals turn out!”

On Friday, the Mustangs will find out their opponent for their next regional match on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

“I am very excited and optimistic going into our next playoff games. We have been undefeated all season, we can’t stop now,” continued Riggins.
