(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS varsity girls soccer team defeated Venice High School in the district semifinals Monday.

The game allowed the girls (16-0-1) to move on to district finals.

The team won 7-4 in overtime. Senior Julia Magno scored the tying goal to send the game into overtime with 30 seconds left.

Sophomore Savannah Adams said, “We were overconfident going into the game and thankfully we found a way to pull out a win in the end.”

Coach Delaney Riggins said, “I was so excited and proud of the girls for their heart last night. Even though the game seemed to be over, we battled until the very end and left it all on the field.

Meanwhile the Mustang boys (11-5-3) host Sarasota Riverview (7-2-6) in their own district semi-final game at 7 p.m. tonight.
