LRHS science teacher Erika McCarthy has family connections to LRHS

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS welcomed new teacher Erika McCarthy to the school last semester.

McCarthy’s first official day on campus was as on Oct. 31, 2022. Her first day in class was Nov. 1.

She teaches environmental science.

Before she was a teacher, she worked at Hillsbourgh County sheriff’s office as an investigator for 12 years.

McCarthy said, “I am looking forward to interacting with students. Being part of making a change, in my other job I made an impact but here I can make an impact in a different way.”

She was born in Massachusetts but moved to Florida when she was nine years old.

McCarthy is sister of LRHS English and creative writing teacher Kristin Wikstrom.

She is the daughter of track and field coach Bill Zarella.

“Teaching is hands on, I can get to know students, help them, and lead them to be successful,” she continued.
