(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS was awarded the 2022 Cognia School of Distinction Award today.

Cognia is the world’s largest educational accreditation organization. They evaluate schools and systems throughout the nation.

Cognia recognized LRHS and 95 other schools this year after evaluating over 1500 schools and districts.

The award winners were based on the results of Cognia’s rigorous academic engagement review process. The organization recognizes schools and systems who have shown the most growth.

LRHS Discipline Dean Jacob Sponsel said, “This award not only shows the achievements of students but in all various components of the school as a whole.”

Sponsel helped lead LRHS’s recertification effort.

The award was presented by Cognia Southeast Regional Director Dr. Jessica Swere.

She scouts schools in the region that show growth and evaluates what the organization can do to other schools in the community.

Swere said, “Congratulations on the award. The school has earned it for its commitment to provide quality education to learners. Something that made this school stand out is all the tools it uses to evaluate themselves.”

The organization provides parent surveys, student surveys, teacher observations, and classroom observations that schools can use for improvement.

The Cognia accreditation goes to schools that have an accredited system, maintains a commitment to continuous improvement, and meets Cognia Standards of Quality.

LRHS will carry this designation throughout the year.
