(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Mustang student athletes have not only been doing well on the field but in the classroom, too.

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) awards seasonal and annual Academic Team Championships based on athletes’ Grade Point Averages (GPSs).

“The program recognizes teams in each of the Association’s sanctioned and recognized sports, naming an Academic Team Champion in each classification based off Grade Point Average (GPA),” according to the FHSAA website.

FHSAA recognized four LRHS fall sports teams with GPAs finishing in the top 10 throughout Florida.

The teams ranked as follows –

  • Varsity volleyball – second
  • Boys golf – fifth
  • Varsity football – sixth
  • cross country – eighth

Senior golfer Preston Severs said combining academic and classroom success takes dedication.

“I came to school, and did my homework,” he said.

The FHSAA website continued, “Each classification’s individual sport winner receives a commemorative plaque.”
