Dominick Kerman- Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)-This fall was remarkably successful for Lakewood Ranch sports teams. Girls Raiders, girls cross country, girls and boys golf, and 6 Swimmers are all going to States.
“Every year all of our teams do well,” said LRHS Athletic Director Kent Ringquist. He points out many of these teams qualified for states last year.
Such success is not unusual at LRHS. Ringquist said teams have been successful for “the last few years,” and that last year 20 Mustangs won athletic scholarships.
Girls cross country ran at the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 4A Region 2 championship last week, finishing eighth place out of 16.
They had three top-50 times including Sophomore Olivia Spiegel, Sophomore Addison Shea, and Freshman Skyler Quigley. Their times were 19:19, 20:07, and 21:10 respectively.
Girls Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Raiders finished first at the district championships, punching their ticket to the State finals.
Raiders participate in five events – the 5K run, the one-mile liter carry, the obstacle course, the tire flip, and the rope bridge. There were 12 players and all the athletes contributed to a fantastic performance.
Boys and girls golf qualified for States this year. Both Boys and Girls defended their district titles.
Boys golf won the 3A District Championship. Sophomores Parker Severs and Henry Burbee both had a team best score of 68, one shot under par.
The girls won the 3A District Championship. The girls had an undefeated. Senior Lauren Hosier had a tournament best 78.
Mustang swimmers have six representatives in States – Abigail Loefgren, Reese Messal, Payton Griffin, Nicole Majewski, Zharra Conner, and Jorge Guzman. They swim in different events including Girls 200 Yard Individual Medley, Girls 50 Yard Freestyle, Girls 500 Yard Freestyle, Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke, Boys 100 Yard Backstroke, Girls 200 Yard Medley relay, and Girls 200 Yard Freestyle relay.
