Nadia Gandhi – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS swimmers completed the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 4A Region 3 championship at the Long Center pool in Clearwater. Many swimmers swam personal best times and will advance to state championships.

Head coach Steven Lubrino is extremely happy with the performance of the swim team this year.

“This was a great season, and there’s no better way to finish it than by having six swimmers qualify for the state championships,” Lubrino said.

The following relay teams qualified for states:

  • Girls 200 Yard Medley relay: Abigail Loefgren, Reese Messal, Payton Griffin, Nicole Majewski
  • Girls 200 Yard Freestyle relay: Abigail Loefgren, Zharra Conner, Payton Griffin, Nicole Majewski

The following swimmers qualified for individual events:

  • Zharra Conner: Girls 200 Yard IM (2:12.37)
  • Nicole Majewski: Girls 50 Yard Freestyle (24.67)
  • Payton Griffin: Girls 500 Yard Freestyle (5:11.84)
  • Reese Messal: Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:07.22)
  • Jorge Guzman: Boys 100 Yard Backstroke (54.10)

“Everybody put in lots of hard work throughout the course of the year, and I am looking forward to seeing how they do at states,” Lubrino continued.

Senior captains Hannah Swartz and Majewski are proud of the team and the progress they have made throughout the season.

“I am proud of our swimmers and how well they placed throughout the season,” Swartz said.

Majewski added, “This is the most swimmers we have ever had qualify for states, which is a huge accomplishment for the team.”

The state championships are scheduled for Nov. 4 – 5 at Sailfish Splash Waterpark and Aquatics Center in Stuart, FL.
