Jennifer Shank – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS girls cross country team secured a spot in the state finals last Saturday at North Port High School.
The girls ran at the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 4A Region 2 championship.
Going into the race, the Mustangs were ranked 11th.
The Mustangs placed eighth out of 16 teams.
They will be attending the FHSAA 4A State Finals next Saturday, Nov. 5 in Tallahassee.
Mustangs’ individual scores were as follows –
- Sophomore Olivia Spiegel – 19:19 in 8th place
- Sophomore Addison Shea – 20:07 in 21st place
- Freshman Skyler Quigley – 21:10 in 50th place
- Sophomore Kyleigh Halloran – 22:19 in 80th place
- Freshman Sophia Malbran – 22:52 in 97th place
- Freshman Gabbie Hotaling – 23:16 in 104th place
- Freshman Erin Hogan – 25:31 in 112th place
Sophomore Olivia Spiegel led the way, taking home a top 15 finisher medal.
Cross country and track coach Rae Ann Darling Reed said, “Today, the girls came together as a team, ran for each other, and really focused on their finishing places which is exactly what was needed to get to State.”

Two new personal best times were run by Malbran and Hotaling.
“In my first-year coaching at Lakewood Ranch I am proud of all they have accomplished so far and very excited for our future,” Darling Reed continued.
