Nadia Gandhi – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Last Friday Mustang swimmers successfully completed district championships at Selby Aquatic Center.

Many swimmers swam personal best times, qualifying them for the regional championships.

Senior captain Nicole Majewski is proud of the progress the team made throughout the season and at the district meet.

“Even though we experienced minor hiccups throughout the meet, we still have a lot of individual swimmers advancing to regionals and almost all of our relays advancing, which is a great achievement for this team,” Majewski said.

The following relays qualified for regionals:

  • 200 Yard Medley Girls Relay: Abigail Loefgren, Reese Messal, Payton Griffin, Nicole Majewski
  • 200 Yard Freestyle Girls Relay: Abigail Loefgren, Payton Griffin, Zharra Conner Nicole Majewski
  • 200 Yard Freestyle Boys Relay: Scott Barkey, Kailer Byrd, Connor Allen, Kyle Dorn
  • 400 Yard Freestyle Girls Relay: Abigail Loefgren, Nadia Gandhi, Parker Haught, Ainsley Ellis
  • 400 Yard Freestyle Boys Relay: Scott Barkey, Kailer Byrd, Connor Allen, Kyle Dorn

The following swimmers qualified for individual events:

  • Payton Griffin: Girls 200 Yard Freestyle (2:00.75), Girls 500 Yard Freestyle (5:15.75)
  • Zharra Conner: Girls 200 Yard IM (2:17.64), Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:11.30)
  • Nicole Majewski: Girls 50 Yard Freestyle (25.02), Girls 100 Yard Freestyle (55.57)
  • Reese Messal: Girls 100 Yard Butterfly (1:04.80), Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:10.12)
  • Jorge Guzman: Boys 100 Yard Freestyle (50.00), Boys 100 Yard Backstroke (57.94)

Head coach Steven Lubrino is proud of all swimmers.

“We had great swims this meet, better than expected, and we have swimmers swimming in 15 different events. Getting to states will be difficult, but we can absolutely get it done,” Lubrino said.

Regionals are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28 at Long Center Pool in Clearwater, FL.
