(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS cross country girls and boys teams won at the Tri-County XC Championship on Saturday, Oct. 15 at North Port High School.   The next competition is Saturday’s scheduled 4A District 4 Championship.

Nine runners set new Personal Records (PRs) and two runners ran their best times of the season.

Sophomore Olivia Speigel was the individual county champion with a time of 19:35.

Following Spiegel, sophomore Addison Shea placed third, freshman Skyler Quigley placed fourth, sophomore Kyleigh Holloran placed ninth, and freshman Diana Larion placed tenth.

Girls cross country and track coach Rae Ann Darling Reed said, “The Tri-County meet was a great finish to the season for the seven girls who ended their season that day.”

The top eight girls will continue to train in preparation for districts. The girls have a goal of finishing in the top eight of that championship.

“For the eight varsity girls now working towards the State Series, Tri-County was a good indication of the shape they are in from all the hard work they put in over summer and this fall,” Reed continued.

The girls will advance to the 4A Region 2 on Saturday, Oct. 29. They hope to finish in the top eight to qualify for State Finals.

Reed continued, “Our goal is to peak at the end of the season and run our best when it counts the most; District, Region, and State.”
