Mustang swimmers make a splash

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS swim teams are Manatee County Champions for the tenth consecutive year.

Last Friday, Mustang boys and girls won with a combined score of 764 points. Both won first place trophies.

The girls relay team won the 200-yard Medley Relay, which consisted of junior Abby Loefgren, freshman Zharra Conner, freshman Payton Griffin, and senior Nicole Majewski.

The boys relay team won the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, which consisted of junior Scott Barkey, junior Kai Byrd, junior Kyle Dorn, and sophomore Jorge Guzman.

Individual county champions include Majewski in the girls 50-yard Freestyle, Griffin in the girls 200-yard Freestyle and girls 500-yard Freestyle, and Guzman in the boys 50-yard Freestyle and 100-yard Freestyle.

Head Coach Steven Lubrino is highly satisfied with the team’s progress throughout the year.

“The hard work and dedication of the swimmers has paid off, and results will show well into next season. We have some great swimmers and I look forward to what the future holds for them,” Lubrino said.

Senior captains Hannah Swartz and Majewski are proud of all swimmers this season.

Majewski said, “I am very proud of the progress the team has made this year and am so glad that I was a captain of the swim team this year.”

“Winning counties for 10 consecutive years is a major accomplishment for the team, and I’m excited to see some of our swimmers advance to States,” Swartz said.

Tri-Counties, which was scheduled for Oct. 15, is cancelled.

The Mustangs compete at Districts Friday, Oct. 21.
