(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Academic Team made great strides at their first meeting Wednesday at Braden River High School.
A total of ten club members competed while three others were there to cheer them on. The team is split into two teams: Lakewood Black and Lakewood Green.
At the first meet, Lakewood Black placed fifth out of fourteen teams with a total score of 128 points. Lakewood Green came in sixth place with a total of 126.
Sophomore Logan Catlett was the only one to score individually, meaning he was the only one successful in getting all questions right. He placed sixth individually.
The individual scores are used to determine who will compete on the state level next Spring.
A-Team coach and LRHS media specialist Audrey Dombroski said, “Many of the students have not been in any competition like this before, so I’m definitely proud of how we performed.

“The team members all agreed they need to hit the buzzer quicker as they knew most of the questions but weren’t fast enough. We focused on that during practice yesterday,” she continued.
The team will practice in preparation for their future competitions, which will be determined in late September.
