The Mustangs defeated Riverview High

Stephanie Green and Gianna Heinemann– Mustangs Ahead

(Lakewood Ranch, FL) – The LRHS varsity Mustang volleyball team beat Sarasota Riverview 25-23,  25-23  25-21.

Senior Katie Eckstrom led with 13 kills. Freshmen Kora Yanes led the team with four aces. Senior Sydney Sprague led with 29 digs.

Eckstrom said, “It was a good game I felt really good about our playing.”

Head coach Jessica Leupold said, “The game was not terribly close, and we made some mistakes, but I am extremely proud of the girls. We were missing two team members and the girls really stepped up.”

Junior varsity (JV) lost to Riverview 25-21, 25-13  

Sophomore Vaylin Jensen added, “We played well. We are going to keep practicing and getting better.”

Varsity will play their final tournament of the season 8 a.m. Sept. 17 at Parish Community High School.   

LRHS’s JV Junior Varsity (JV) and varsity volleyball team played against Port Charlotte High School earlier this week. Both teams lost.

Sophomore Hannah Sprungman said, “We all played our hardest and it still was not enough. We are going to be working extra hard at practice so we can win all our future games.”

 Varsity’s final score was 2-3.

Sophomore Eliza Lander said, “After yesterday’s loss everyone was angry at each other but now, we know what we need to work on for games in the future.”

 JV’s final score was 1-3.
