(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Cole Wetherington is the only freshman on the LRHS varsity football team.
Wetherington’s love for football started when he was only five years old. This will be his tenth year playing football.
He has been given a starting position on the team.
Wetherington said, “I’m really excited for this season. This year I’ll be playing middle linebacker, making the tackles.”
Mustang head coach Rashad West said, “Physically we thought he could be someone that could help on the varsity, but we didn’t know if he was ready mentally. He really answered those questions during fall camp.”

Wetherington hopes to be a role model for other Mustangs who hope to join the team.
“When I play, I play for my mom, and my girlfriend. My dad is one of my biggest supporters and helps me through assignments. I love how the team starts to feel like a family,” he continued.
