(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Youth in Action (YIA) club is hosting an informational meeting for new and previous members at 7 a.m. on Sept. 9 in room 915.
YIA is a club with the focus of creating a safe and happy environment by bringing awareness to drug abuse and mental health afflictions. They do this through different activities and cooperation with chapters from other schools
They are also partnered with Drug-Free Manatee to help support their cause of bringing awareness to the issues that drug abuse causes.
This meeting will go over what YIA plans on accomplishing this year and certain important events that are upcoming. One of these events is their YIA retreat on Sept 23 – 24.
“YIA is such an easy and fun way to get involved on campus and help other students,” said senior and YIA president Anna Miller.

“You tend to find that you’re helping yourself learn to deal with stress and communicate well while teaching other students how to do the same,” Miller continued.
This first meeting will discuss possible activities this month, as September is Suicide Prevention Month, and they will be planning Red Ribbon Week which occurs in October.
Miller added, “At the first meeting I want to get to know all our members, maybe do a smaller initiative for suicide prevention, and then plan for our first big event which will be Red Ribbon Week!”
