Heyden Kudelko – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS Mustangs have been looking forward to the start of college football, and the first weekend of the season did not disappoint many around LRHS who were excited for the start of the season.
One of the big games around the country was between the University of Florida (UF) and University of Utah. The game went down to the wire, with the Gators getting a goal line interception to seal the game 29-26.
LRHS sophomore Dominick Kerman said, “The UF vs Utah game was an absolute thriller down in the Swamp.”
Looking north of Florida Kerman and many other students were excited for the Ohio State v. Notre Dame game. Ohio State sat at second in the nation and Notre Dame was ranked fifth.
Both teams slugged each other in a true smashmouth football game, but Ohio State squeaked out a win 21-10.
Kerman and others expected a win for the Buckeyes.
He said, “This was Marcus Peters first game as Notre Dame’s head coach, and Ohio State has a loud stadium.”
Other notable victories around the country were Georgia’s 49-3 thrashing of Oregon, and the high scoring shootout between North Carolina and Appalachian State, which ended with a win for the Tarheels 63-61.

The game that excited some Mustangs the most was between Florida State University and Louisiana State University (LSU).
Junior Justin Baltes said, “I lost my mind in those final minutes.”
LSU fumbled a punt which set up an easy FSU score on the one. What many didn’t expect was a Seminole fumble giving the ball right back to LSU.
Unfortunately for Baltes and Mustangs who are LSU fans, their last-second extra point to tie the game was blocked.
Sophomore Brenner Astman said, “It came down to missing that one shot. LSU sold the game.”
