Ranch Reflections are articles written by LRHS students and staff who want to share their experiences, thoughts, and concerns. This is a great opportunity for Mustangs to branch out beyond traditional news stories.  This edition features one Mustang’s whirlwind family trip through Europe.

Sydney Oostendorp – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – When I was told that I would be travelling to nine countries in four weeks, I was in disbelief.

Every summer, my family and I visit my grandparents in the Netherlands – you could say we’re pretty used to traveling, yet our newest trip would change that.

Our original plan was to travel through three countries: Belgium, Netherlands, and France. I doubted this because most of our trips never went according to plan.

Starting from the North of Europe, we spent time with my grandparents in the Netherlands. This included hours of driving and random stops in towns along the way.

After that, we spent the days in different countries.

We went to The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Monaco, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Germany. Within these countries we had a great mixture of sightseeing, cities, nature, and activities.

We didn’t know where we would be the next day or where we would be sleeping that night. It was nice not having to rush anywhere to make a reservation or worry about missing something the was coming up.

Experiencing so many cultures by staying overnight in towns with locals and learning about their life and the way they do things was a very eye-opening experience.

Overall, this was an interesting, yet stress free and easy-going trip.
