The LRHS Mustangs are state softball champions for the second straight year

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS varsity softball Mustangs are Florida state champions for the second year in a row.

They beat Lake Brantley High School 8-2 in the championship game on Saturday.

Earlier in the season the team lost twice to Lake Brantley, the Mustangs’ only two losses of the season.

LRHS junior Addyson Brunemen helped her team tremendously by hitting a double and a triple and collecting three RBIs.

Brunemen said, “This weekend my swing just felt good, smooth. I went into this game trying to swing hard and not focus too much on what pitch I thought was coming, I was just attacking the pitch as it came.”

On Friday the Mustangs beat Western High School 11-3  in the state semi-final game..

Senior Ella Coiner had a great game offensively, hitting her first ever grand slam.

“We have been to states a bunch of times and we are used to it so there were no butterflies. We really brought our best game into both the semifinal and the final,” said Coiner.

The team’s goal at the beginning of the season was to “win the last game.” They achieved this goal and brought another state championship to LRHS.
