(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS said goodbye to retiring staff members assistant principal Valencia Lowen, science teacher Lawrence Hickman, media specialist Jill Mullen, and math teacher Catherine Franek this school year.

The former staff members reflected on their last year at LRHS and look forward to their retirement.

Lowen said, “I am concluding my career at LRHS, and I have worked here for the last 15 years. I’ve always considered myself to be so lucky to have worked for so long at a school like Lakewood Ranch.”

Lowen and her husband plan to become “Snowbirds” as they will spend half the year up north and half the year in Florida.

Hickman said, “I will miss all the great friendships and daily interactions with many of the people here at LRHS. I have forged many close relationships with my colleagues that will continue well into my retirement years.”

Hickman plans to travel within Florida and will enjoy sleeping in past 6:30 a.m.

“Hopefully I have inspired some students to go on to have careers in the marine science field in the 22 years I have taught,” continued Hickman.

Mullins retired in December, 2021.  She said at the time she’d miss the daily commotion of LRHS.

“I will miss the morning crowds in the library, the Mustangs, and recommending good books to read in the library” she said.

The 2022-23 school year begins Aug. 10.
