The Mustangs celebrate their latest championship

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS softball Mustangs are the district 8 Champions.

They beat Venice High School 1-0- for the title.

Junior Amanda Lee was clutch for her team, getting the game winning RBI on a single up the middle, scoring Senior Ella Coiner from third.

“I knew Amanda was going to get me in. She always comes in clutch when we need her, and she has been swinging the bat really well.” said Coiner.

Earlier in the week the defending state champion Mustangs won the district semifinal game against Naples Gulf Coast High School 9-0.

Sophomore Ella Dodge threw her first career No-Hitter, striking out 16 batters, a season high in the 7-inning shutout.

Dodge said, “Throwing a no-hitter was an awesome experience. My teammates had my back every inning defensively and offensively. They were hyping me up the whole game which gave me energy, and it was a lot of fun.

\Lee was 2-2 with 2 RBIs.

Lee said, “It felt good to get my bat hot going into play offs and to help my team get the ‘dub’.”

The team’s next game is the regional quarterfinal game scheduled for 7 p.m., May 12 at home.
