Cassidy McLellan – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS softball team had three games this week and won all three.
These three games were the last games of the regular season. Play-offs start next week with the first district playoff game on Tuesday, May 3.
The team finished the regular season matching their record from last year at 23-2 and finished the season where it started: ranked #1 in the state in all classes.
The first game of the week was against Sarasota High School and the Mustangs won 9-0.
Senior Jayla Daoust contributed significantly to the team, going 1-2 with three RBIs.
Daoust said, “I was very proud of my performance last night. When I came up to bat with bases loaded, I was very excited to succeed, and I did because I scored two runs with my hit.”

The girls’ second game was Wednesday, April 26, against Canterbury High School at home and the Mustangs won 15-0 in the 3-inning run rule.
Sophomore Grace Shaw-Rockey helped her team significantly by going 3-3 with two RBIs.
Shaw-Rockey said, “I have been feeling a lot better about my swing the past couple of games. It was great to be able to see some results and contribute to the great win yesterday.”
The last game of the week was against McKeel Academy and the team won 11-0.
Senior Taylor Shephard helped her team greatly by going 3-4 with a homerun and four RBIs.
“I felt very confident about yesterday’s game. Ending our last regular season game like we did is a really good sign going into the playoffs and we are still going up,” said Shephard.
