Ryan Javate – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS drama department worked together with the LRHS orchestra and band to hold their first live musical performance in two years with their cabaret on April 22.
“Seize the Night… It’s Broadway Night!” was an excellent celebration of Broadway’s shows, both new and old.
The show began with members of the LRHS orchestra performing the main theme from “The Phantom of the Opera” which then led into an energetic performance of “One Short Day” from the hit musical “Wicked,” setting the scene for the rest of the evening.
There were many memorable moments in the show including renditions “Ex-Wives” from “Six,” “Easy Street” from “Annie,” and “Marian the Librarian” from “The Music Man”.
The ensemble cast made this show for me. Each song they performed that night was excellently choreographed and kept viewers wanting to see more and more of the Mustang Players.
One of the standout performances of the night was a very entertaining performance of “All that Jazz” from “Chicago.” The group was led by senior Ally Adamo and gave their snazziest dance moves in a great display of showmanship.
Something different from past performances was a live performance from the band “Wick in the Wind.” This band consisted of LRHS Orchestra members: senior Konstantino Papageorgiou Ayala on guitar and vocals, and juniors Chris Bracco on percussion, Hoang Pham on piano, and Maximus Wilson on bass.
The band performed melodies from “Springsteen on Broadway” and “MJ: The Musical” and helped the ensemble whenever they were on stage phenomenally.
Overall, the show was a fun experience to watch and a great comeback for the drama department.
