Cassidy McLellan – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The Mustangs varsity softball team won its two games this week.

The team’s first victory was 9-1 against North Fort Myers High School.

Senior Ella Coiner and sophomore Ella Dodge pitched a combined five hit, 10 strikeout win.

Dodge pitched five innings with only three hits, one run, and eight strikeouts. Coiner pitched two innings allowing two hits and two strike outs.

“I was throwing fast, I felt like I was working smoothly, and I was calm and focused,” said Coiner.

Coiner also had an outstanding night at the plate going 2-3 with a double.

The girls’ second game of the week was against Fort Myers High School and the team won 7-2.

Coiner had a great night hitting and pitching. She allowed only one hit and she was 4-4 at the plate with an RBI.

Also contributing to the win was junior Addyson Bruneman who went 1-2.

Monday, April 25 will be team’s senior night where all six seniors will be honored and recognized for their careers at LRHS.

The ceremony is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

Senior Jayla Daoust said, “I am excited for senior night and to be able to thank all the people who have supported me over the years. I am also sad though because my senior year is almost over.”
