Friends and family gather to remember LRHS senior Blake Kelly

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Wednesday LRHS Mustangs and staff celebrated Blake Kelly’s 18th birthday at memorial walk after school.

Blake, an LRHS senior, passed away last September due to cancer.

Blake’s father, Eric Kelly, and stepmother, Laurie Moser, both spoke to the 50 or so people who attended.

“I always find inspiration when I think about Blake,” said Eric.  “I think we could all find inspiration in Blake.  He was such a giving, caring, kind soul.”

Moser said, “There was a great turn-out. It was good to see so many of his friends, classmates, and teachers come out and support this. This must be tough for some of these kids.”

Eric Kelly added, “Blake was a very popular student. These kids came out to help commemorate his birthday. Of course, a lot of these same students came to his funeral.”

A page in the yearbook has been dedicated to Blake and once yearbooks are released a memorial copy will be available to sign in Student Government Association (SGA) adviser Delaney Riggins’ room.

Riggins said, “This turnout just goes to show how many people Blake impacted. They really cared about him. They were still here 20-30 minutes after the ceremony sharing stories and memories about him.”
