(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Stellar Xplorers team qualified for the 2022 national semifinals.

This year Stellar Xplorers consisted of 375 teams nationwide and qualifying for the semifinals means the Mustangs are among the top 30% nationally.

Stellar Xplorers teams compete in a space design competition where they are given a scenario and will provide a solution to the problem like launch vehicle planning, orbit determination, and more.

LRHS physics teacher and Stella Xplorers adviser Daniel Goodman said, “The whole team started training on their own during the summer online with modules and practice on software, technology, etc. They continued that practice every week throughout the year.”

The LRHS team includes senior Joseph Cardillo, and juniors Jenna Furno, Raymond Jenkins, Christopher Knight, James Leveille and Diego Munoz.

Munoz said, “I’m excited about the competition and hope that we score well enough to make it to finals in Texas. I think we will do very well and I just hope it’s enough to make it to finals.”

Goodman said, “I’m pleased, excited, and thrilled that the team made it to semi-finals. I really think they have a chance to win finals.”

The semi-finals determine who advances to the finals at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas in April. The finals will include the top 10 teams from the semi-finals.
