Andrew Deppen – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The Kickoff of the LRHS esports teams starts Feb. 4, and the Schools “Rocket League” team has qualified for nationals.  LRHS esports has fall and spring seasons.

A lot has occurred for the esports program since it started two years ago. The team’s spring season officially kicks off on Feb. 14.

This spring they plan to have two “Rocket League” teams as well as eight solo players for “Super Smash Bros.” The team is still searching for people to compete in their “Overwatch” team as well.

The organization also managed to get its “Rocket League” team, The LRHS Reapers, into the Electronic Gaming Federation (EGF) High School National Championship this spring. The team consists of; freshman, Nicolas Juliano; sophomore, Steven Robinson; junior, Connor Shilling and senior, Evan Smith.

LRHS esports head coach and student services receptionist Kari Keech-Babcock said, “I’m extremely proud of our teams and absolutely excited about this accomplishment! For a brand-new team, I feel that speaks volumes to their leadership and communication skills.”

The team also plans to form an extracurricular club to help manage team activities.
