JV cheerleaders win county championship

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS JV cheerleading team took first place at the County Competition at Monday at the Manatee County Fair.

This was the team’s first time back at the County Competition since the pandemic hit in 2020 and the Mustangs’ excitement to compete was evident.

“The girls were surprised at first when they heard that Manatee won second and then they became ecstatic when we were announced first. Getting to see their faces when it was announced was priceless and it was a true testament to everything they have worked toward this season,” said coach Bailee French.

This is the first time the 2021-2022 JV team has competed at the JV rather than varsity level in an attempt by French to expand their skill levels.

“They have been competing against varsity teams in the varsity level all season which has continued to push them to be better and stand a chance against teams that are older and have higher difficulty,” said French.

The competition consists of four events – stunting, pyramid, tumbling, and spiriting, all within a high intensity 2-minute routine.

The team also proved their dedication as they had cheer outside in 50-degree weather.

French added, “Having this win under our belt will bring a bit of pressure but will ultimately push the girls in the seasons to follow to come out on top.”
