LRHS graduate Riley Simmons (r) and athletic trainer Sydney Suppa celebrate Simmons’ championship

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Thursday defending 4A state shot put champion and former Mustang Riley Simmons was honored with her state ring during halftime of the LRHS varsity basketball game.

Last May, Simmons won the 4A Track and Field State Championship in the shot put and was runner-up in the discus. Simmons is currently attending Mississippi State on a track scholarship.

Simmons said, “It was bittersweet being back at LRHS just because I do miss high school athletics, but I also know that all the work that was put in at this school got me to where I am now.”

“My states ring is beautiful and customized which is very special to me,” added Simmons.

Simmons is currently training for her upcoming NCAA season.
