Head girls cross country coach Kristin Wikstrom is the HT Preps coach of the year

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS girls cross country coach Kristin Wikstrom was awarded the All-Area Coach of the Year by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune HT Preps Sports Section.

Wikstrom guided the Mustang girls to a successful season with a third-place finish at the class 4A state meet and second place finishes at the regional and district meets.

“I’m truly honored to receive the Coach of the Year award this year. At the end of the day, this award is a product of our incredible cross country girls,” explained Wikstrom. “Their commitment and work ethic made this season successful, and they deserve just as much recognition for the incredible feat of placing top three in the state.”

Several Mustangs were also recognized for their efforts in the class 4A state meet and nominated to the All-Area girls cross-country team. Nominees included senior Ariana Majano, senior Grace Marston, senior Aurora Melzer, freshman Addison Shea, and freshman Olivia Spiegel.

These Mustangs were selected for the Herald Tribunes’ All-Area teams through research on previous player information and coach’s player rankings. They will attend the Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte Area High School Sports Awards show in June where a player of the year for girls cross country as well as other sports will be announced.

“Ultimately, this award commemorates one of the most special seasons I’ve had as a cross country coach, and I am humbled and grateful to receive it,” added Wikstrom.
