Ainsley Ellis – Mustangs Ahead
(Lakewood Ranch, FL) – On Friday representatives from Manatee Technical College (MTC) visited LRHS to talk to sophomores about their dual enrollment program.
MTC assistant director Omar Edwards said, “We came to LRHS to teach sophomores about the importance of dual enrollment. Dual enrollment will allow them to earn credits sooner so that they will be able to join the work force sooner.”

MTC has over 50 career preparation programs available for Mustangs including public service, health, and mechanics. Not all programs are dual enrolled.
Edwards said MTC graduates are welcome in the local economy.
“The business community is onboard,” he said. “They’re ready to receive our graduates, they’re offering tuition reimbursement and a career pathway.”
Sophomore EmmaGrace Kelly said, “This was an informative lecture that I am glad we got to attend. It is important for us to hear about the many different options that are available for us.”
To be eligible for MTC dual enrollment Mustangs must have a 2.0 unweighted grade point average (GPA) and be on track for graduation.
