Ryan Javate – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – After the disastrous release of their “Avengers” video game, fans of Square Enix had low expectations when they announced a game based off of the “Guardians of the Galaxy.” However, many were pleasantly surprised by this Space Oddity and after playing the game, I can see why.
Players take control of the team’s loveable leader Star-Lord (Jon McClaren) as he and his fellow Guardians of the Galaxy try to settle a debt after their latest bounty fails. However, when the team encounters a creature that could grant them their deepest desires, the Guardians must find a way to save the day while not being locked up for their debt.
You can tell the development team took their time researching their source material as the in-universe lore is very accurate to the comics.
The writing for this game is also amazing. The interactions between the members of the team are hilarious and will please fans of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie.

However, not only is the dialogue in this game charming, but it is also very, very heart wrenching. The backstories for Drax and Star-Lord are the standouts from the rest of the characters as both have lost their loved ones and the themes of loss and acceptance are heavy in their sub-plots in the game.
When it comes to visuals, the game is stunning. Each set-piece has a vibrant color palate which highlights the cosmic wonder of the in-game universe.
The only thing I have to nitpick about the game is the overall gameplay. If I’m going to be completely honest, the game plays like a generic, “beat’em up”, superhero game with basic controls and repetitive fights but, it should reward gamers with a fun time.
Overall, “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy” is a phenomenally crafted video game that will surprise gamers with its excellent story, stunning visuals, and heart.
