LRHS, library join forces for blood drive

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS is partnering with Suncoast Blood Centers to host a blood drive 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Braden River Library.

Participants must be 16 years or older to donate and those who are under 18 must have a signed parental consent form.

Suncoast Blood Centers said, “Our mission is to serve you and others in our community by ensuring a safe, adequate supply of blood products, including pathogen-reduced platelets, and services for a range of local hospitals, cancer patients and soldiers actively serving in the U.S. military.”

Suncoast Blood Centers provides blood products to many local facilities such as Moffitt Cancer Center, DeSoto Memorial Hospital, Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, Manatee Memorial Hospital, and Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System.

For those who donate, Chick-Fil-A will be provided as well as snack and drinks and a free T-shirt.

President of the LRHS blood drive committee senior Reva Ghandi added, “For those who are donating it is important to remember to drink an extra 16 ounces of water beforehand, eat a healthy meal that includes iron-rich foods (red meat, bananas, oatmeal, spinach. etc.) and bring a photo ID with your birth date.”
