Sara Mills – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Six Mustang athletes officially committed to furthering their academic and athletic careers at the colleges of their choice on Wednesday.
The following athletes signed:
- Grace Marston – cross country – Georgia Tech
- Mackenzie Schmucker – volleyball – Converse University
- Kelsey Vogel – softball – University of North Florida
- Taylor Shephard – softball – University of North Florida
- Sydney McCray – softball – Florida Southwestern College
- Ella Coiner – softball – Eckerd College
Families and friends gathered in the LRHS auditorium to celebrate the athletes and their achievements. Athletic director Kent Ringquist along with the coaches said a few words about their athletes.
McCray said, “Signing day was memorable because I really felt like I just took the next step in my softball career around all the people I truly care about.”
When choosing a college to commit to these Mustangs had many factors to consider. Location, academics, coaches, and team culture were all considerations on deciding.
Marston said, “Georgia Tech was the best of both worlds, they have a great engineering program and national caliber cross country team.”
Officially signing was also a relief for many.
Vogel said, “It feels like a big weight off my shoulders, and I am very excited to start my college career.”
Schmucker added, “There is honestly so much relief that comes from signing because I don’t have to worry about what college I’m going to or if I’m going to get in.”
Overall, these athletes are excited to take the next step in their athletic careers.
Shephard said, “I am so excited for the next four years at the University of North Florida and I wish it would come faster.”
