Shaffer grew up in Inverness, Florida where she attended Citrus High School. After graduating high school, she attended the University of North Florida where she played a big part in photographing sporting events, sorority life, and student activity around campus.

Shaffer explained, “I earned my degree in fine arts with a focus in photography, and this job presented an opportunity to teach classes that incorporated both photography and digital art, which is right up my alley,” explained Shaffer.

Prior to LRHS Shaffer taught at Suncoast Schools for Innovative Studies (SSIS) in Sarasota and Seabreeze Elementary in Jacksonville.
