LRHS athletic director Kent Ringquist said Mustang fall sports success isn’t surprising

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – This year many Mustangs participating in fall sports will be headed to their respective state championships.

The LRHS boys golf team, girls golf team, girls cross country team, and two boys swimmers will all compete over the next few weeks at states.

LRHS athletics director Kent Ringquist said, “I am very happy for the athletes and coaches going to states.”

For many athletes the end goal for their high school careers includes competing and winning at states. At LRHS this type of success is common. Ringquist added, “It seems like every year we send cross country, golf, and swimming to states.”

LRHS cross country coach Kristin Wikstrom said her team’s success this year was the result of a lot of hard work.

“Our Lady Mustangs are peaking at the right time as we head into the State Finals,” she said.  “We have our sights set on another podium finish and the ultimate goal of the ever-elusive first place team victory. The team competition is fiercely competitive in 4A this year, but we are ready to go! Led by our four seniors, Gracie Marston, Hailey Marston, Aurora Melzer, and Ariana Majano, the Lady Mustangs plan to make this one count!”

Mustang swimmers were the most recent to qualify, last weekend.  Senior Frank Runge will be swimming the boys 200-yard freestyle and the boys 500-yard freestyle. Senior Dimiter Zafirov will be swimming the boys 200-yard freestyle and the boys 100-yard butterfly.

Zafirov said, “I am so grateful for everything the team and I had accomplished at Regionals. I believe that we all put in hard work and that is why there were so many amazing swims. I am excited to see how I do at states and I believe Frank and I will bring it are all.”
