Mustang senior Grace Marston took honors at Saturday’s district meet

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS boys and girls cross country teams competed in districts on Saturday, Oct. 30 in North Port.

The girls finished second out of 13 and the boys team finished 13th out of 14.

Mustang senior Grace Marston finished first out of all the girls in district 4A.

Marston said consistency was the key to her success.

“I showed up to practice every day and worked hard. I finished first last year, too, so it was my goal to repeat that. It was a great last district,” she said.

Marston is committed to run cross country at Georgia Tech next year and is scheduled to sign her National Letter of Intent Wednesday, Nov. 10.

Earlier in the season, cross country coach Kirsten Wikstrom said this was one of her favorite times of the year.

“As a coach, I always look forward to the end of the season,” she said. “Cross-country is a sport where the objective is to improve continually with the end of the season in mind. We train to maximize our performance at the end of the season, so I am looking forward to each athlete continually improving each week.”

The girls will be back in action at regionals on Thursday, Nov. 4 in Lakeland.
